You Better Own It!

     Your career belongs to you.

Stop renting your career to your employer and waiting for your boss or HR to tell you what's next. Want to keep your job? Love what you do? Trust your employer? Then take care and control of what you own—your career.

There may be fewer jobs today, but there's still plenty of work to do. Career owners assume the responsibility for being in the right place at the right time doing the right work and getting results.

Organizations want doers and thinkers who put creativity, passion and energy into work. Career Ownership: Creating Job Security in Any Economy maps the journey from career renter to career owner. Stop waiting to be told what to do. It's your career. It's time you own it.

You head into your boss’ office as soon as you arrive to get the go-ahead on the idea. Your boss looks up from the computer, sighs heavily and says, “Yeah??” Feeling a little less certain, you explain your thinking and the benefits of taking action today. Your boss turns back to the computer and says, “I’ll get back to you later.” And with that, you’re dismissed. Completely deflated and agitated, you head down the hall to a co-worker’s cubicle for some sympathy.
